While healthcare remains a point of contention in America’s current political climate, some good news came from bipartisan efforts. On September 26, the Senate passed the CHRONIC (Creating High-Quality Results and Outcomes Necessary to Improve Chronic) Care Act of 2017. This bill amends title XVIII (Medicare) of the Social Security Act.1 In layman’s terms, the bill allows for more access to care from home, for many dialysis patients who depend on Medicare benefits.
Dialysis patients will have more options for follow up care, such as telehealth checkups and the elimination of geographic restrictions. This bill is expected to improve access to quality care and expand treatment choices for those living with chronic conditions.2 It is also expected to lower Medicare costs. 2
