The American Journal of Kidney Disease recently released findings that point to consumption of coffee as a factor in decreased risk for chronic kidney disease (CKD). Over 14,000 participants were studied, across a 24-year period. The results of the study are quite interesting:
- less than 1 cup was linked with a 10% lower risk for CKD;
- 1 to 2 cups were linked with a 10% lower risk for CKD;
- 2 to 3 cups were linked to a 13% lower risk for CKD; and
- 3 or more cups were linked with a 16% lower risk for CKD.1
Once adjustments were made for dietary factors, demographics, and clinical factors, the lowered risk is still promising.
